Streaming from Windows Media Player 12 to Evoke Flow

Postby AndyCalling » Thu Mar 31, 2011 9:20 pm

I have a new Evoke Flow with firmware 2.5 on it.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium with Windows Media Player 12. I have Sharky's codec pack installed and it works great.

The Evoke picks up the library from the PC no problem, and will play my few MP3 files. Of course, the bulk of my audio files are in OGG format as this is much better. I know the Evoke doesn't do OGG, but Windows 7 is supposed to transcode stuff on the fly when media streaming to something the Evoke can understand, WMA I expect.

The Evoke can see the OGGs in the library, but it will not play them. How do I get Windows Media Player 12 and Windows 7 to transcode my OGGs? What am I doing wrong? It's probably something simple I'm overlooking, but this is my first home streaming experiment so be gentle with me :)~

Can anyone lend a hand?

Ta,
AC.

Hi Andy,

I gave up on Windows Media and invested in Jamcast - also does live streaming of Spotify or anything going through your soundcard.

Alternatively, if all you want is playing (including transcoding) of your music files, try Serviio, it's a super DLNA server, and it's free!
