Re: ConnectR available for Android

It is just a slighty poor UI layout. The bit saying "Warning: Bluetooth not enabled" is part of a separate section headed "Bluetooth Radios". Clearly the 83i is not a bluetooth radio, but the App accommodates other radios as well, and is simply warning you that without bluetooth ...

Re: New Evoke Owner - A Few Questions...?

The fixation that white-collar 9-5 Mon-Fri designers have with 2 alarms - weekday/weekend - always grates with me. It is two fingers up to the army of people who work in so many sectors - leisure, service, retail, industrial, emergency, etc, where that simple distinction is irrelevant and useless. ...

Re: New Evoke Owner - A Few Questions...?

very good list! The transport controls on podcasts are diabolical - a rotary control would be far better as you suggest, together with time indication rather than percentage. And why no transport control for streamed internet 'listen again' content? The fixation that white-collar 9-5 Mon-Fri designe...

Re: Pure Evoke died

I fully understand what you say about thermal expansion cycling. I also understand what you say about the new 'green' thinking - it is even embedded into the firmware with the option to kill the wifi whilst the radio is off. So all the more reason for Pure to be interested in discovering the point o...

Re: Pure Evoke died

not an attitude I can understand - it is not as if the brand name fades off the front of the product. Why is their good name worth any less to them now than before? Anyway, I delved inside, delicately. Found nothing obvious. Then the green light (on/off) came on of its own accord, radio working - ta...

Pure Evoke died

I switched off my Evoke Flow at the socket as I was going away for a few days, it was simpler than changing the alarm. Upon my return, it is dead. And yes, I have remembered to switch it on again at the wall! The PSU is delivering 6V, tested. The Evoke is receiving power, there is the characteristic...

Re: Pure Evoke Flow died, what do I replace it with?

a curious coincidence, I wonder?
However, if you buy a unit from Hughes then you get the statutory guarantee on the whole unit, whereas if you opt for a repair you will only get a guarantee on the repair. Despite the suspicion that in fact both options may in fact be resourced indentically!

if you have a branch of Best Buy nearby, might be worth a gander. You can pick up a Roberts 83i for about £100.

Re: Pure Evoke Flow died, what do I replace it with?

certainly a quick stroll around PC World/Currys reveals a whole aisle given over to various plasticrap docking solutions, and a further 3/4 aisle given over to half-radio-half-dock chimeras. Then stuck on the lower shelf at the end is a selection of maybe two or three wifi internet radios. Its the s...

Re: Pure Evoke Flow died, what do I replace it with?

I have both teh Evoke Flow and the Roberts 83i. They both fulfil essentially the same role, bedside radio/alarm. Of the two I much prefer the Roberts, but they both have advantages (in that application). Evoke advantages: 1) Better display :) (ha!) The OLED can be read from any angle, stood above th...
